Taurus-WESAK Spiritual Festival, April 2010:
“ Earth Day ”
|
Thursday April 22nd, 2010 |
|
History:
The first "modern" Earth Day -- as we know it -- was April 22, 1970,
with 20 million people nationwide participating.
That was 40 years ago!
It was proclaimed by Gaylord Nelson, then a senator of Wisconsin.
During the 1970s many environmental legislative bills were enacted,
including the Clean Water, Clean Air, Endangered Species,
and Safe Drinking Water acts.
The most important piece of environmental legislation in our history,
the National Environmental Policy Act, was also signed in 1970 and
came about in response to public pressure to environmental issues.
While Earth Day itself was Thursday,
Earth Day is something we need to be conscious of every day.

Filmed on the May full moon in 1985 |
"Legend has it that the Wesak festival forms itself into a channel
for the transmission of power, and blessings from the levels on which the
Buddha may be found. He acts as a focal point for that power and,
passing it through his aura, pours it over humanity."
On the journey were David Thomas, Hock Khoe, Mark and Albert Falzon -
all participated in the production
of the film on various levels.
Fil Baker and Albert Falzon edited the films and
the beautiful music
was created by Carlos Angeles and Lucinda Dreaming.
Michael Clemo Breen who has spent many years
documenting the paintings of Nicholas Roerich
provided the
voice for the narrative - recorded by Martin Pashley.
The script was compiled primarily from the books
by Alice Bailey.
